Life for stone cutters was tough, lot's of them died from silica. They got silica from granite but the more you got the more money you got. Mr. Garavalli was a stone cutter. The silica didn't kill him because he didn't get much of it but he didnt get much money either. Jim Cole was also hard working. He was a butcher for twenty years. He tried to join the AFL (Amalgamated Butchers and Meat Cutters) but he was rejected because he was a negro and they didn't want a negro doing a white man's job. Life for a maid back in the day wasnt easy either. You were hired upon your looks and you needed to be trusted. They didn't want you stealin' anything. Mrs. Marie Haggerty was a maid and she got tested to be trustful, the houseowners left a $5 dollar bill on one of the beds and she knew she was being tested if she can be trusted. Mrs Elizabeth E. Miller was a house wife. Their food consisted of hog. One day her husband went out to fetch a hog. When he didn't return, and it was almost 12pm, she went out with a saw and a knife and a lantern and brought the hog back. When her husband got home she wasn't going to waste any words on him for she had to get the hog herself. Mrs. mayme Reese made quilts with her friends, they would go around to eachothers houses and make quilts. Then, when the county fair came around they would bring their prettiest quilt to try and win the prize.

He was a new physician in the town, basically replacing the older, loved physician but was becoming weary. He worked for the town during the flu epidemic in 1918. He barely went home during that time besides to feed his horse and himself. He would take long trips about 15 miles on a carriage and take little naps during. Eventually his horse ran away or couldn't pull him anymore over time. He was a very religious man, a bible scholar, he and his patients prayed. Dr k. died of a stroke on March 29, 1939. Dr j Lewis built a home on a boat with his wife and they lived on it to dodge the expenses or taxes.
